RailCare Ltd. has now cancelled this event.See the event website, click here for details of other railway events.Wolverton Works Open WeekendWas to have been Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th August 2010RailCare Ltd in association with The Railway Magazine is delighted to announce that it is to stage an open weekend at Wolverton Works, the first for 17 years. Wolverton is one of the oldest railway works still operating. It was built in 1838 at the mid point of the London - Birmingham Railway. Wolverton was initially used for the maintenance of locomotives built by outside companies, before starting to construct its own, including the famous LNWR 2-2-2 "Bloomers" and "Wolverton Express Goods" 0-6-0's. RailCare and The Railway Magazine team have been secretly working on plans for the event for more than five months. Together they hope to raise a significant sum of money for a number of charities, including Willen Hospice, The Living Archive, Milton Keynes Museum and The Mental Health Foundation. Pete Waterman will open the event and be around on the Saturday to chat to fans. "For the third successive year, The Railway Magazine has been asked to partner the major rail industry event of the year. We are delighted and exited to be involved in Wolverton Works Weekend and hope that you will support the site's first event for 17 years." AttractionsOnsite attractions include:The Great Railway Bazaar More than 80 railway - themed trade stands will be undercover to create a great railway marketplace. "Bloomer" Plinthing Wolverton's replica 2-2-2 "Bloomer" will be unveiled and rededicated in its new position at the works entrance. Workshops and Works Demonstrations Wolverton Staff will provide demonstrations of a variety of workshop activities that take place on site. RailCare will be giving a number of carriage - lifting, wheel pressing and other activities rarely seen by the public. Railwayana Displays Two of Britain's leading railwayana auction houses will be providing displays of memorabilia and valuations in one of the workshops. Fine Art Exibition There will be a display of railway art from the Terence Cuneo collection and from Wolverton Works own artist John Kitchen. Other Attractions There will also be other on - site attractions including model railways, vintage vehicles and maybe a surprise or two.
